Lessons are either 45 or 60 minutes, once a week. It is recommended that each student take a 60 minute lesson when possible, even the beginners. The very youngest Suzuki beginners (ages 3-4) may sign up for 30 minute lessons if age and attention requires it. Parents are highly encouraged to attend and observe each lesson, to take notes and be able to assist or answer questions at home. For students 8 and under, parental involvement is almost a requirement if sufficient progress is to occur.
In addition to the weekly private lesson, group classes are held about twice each month (the actual group class schedule varies). The purpose of the group classes is to perform for each other, and to study theory and music history in a fun, collaborative atmosphere. There is no additional charge for the group classes. Your admission to the group classes is included in your tuition for lessons. The group classes are a very important part of my curriculum for each student, and it is in your best interest to attend as many group classes as possible!
My philosophy towards learning to play a musical instrument is that every student deserves to play well. In fact, I believe every child is capable of learning to play well, as long as there is a desire, and instructions are followed. This does not mean that every student will become a professional musician! On the contrary, I expect very few students to actually major in music. But I still have high expectations for every student, because the ability to play is a gift that you can take with you for the rest of your life! And isn't that why we take lessons?
Success is not an accident! It is the result of high goals and purposeful planning!
Every Child Can!
